2020-21 has been kind to Leeds United this season. The Mighty Whites have been a joy to watch in the Premier League this season and have not once flirted with relegation. In fact, a top half finish looks likely whilst European football this season or in the coming years is on the cards.
But how do they take the next step? Recruitment will be crucial as Leeds look to become the force they once were. Bringing in the right kind of player will be vital.
So, lets look at three wingers Leeds United could and should sign this summer.
Silas Wamangituka
The 21 year old has remarkably averaged a goal every other game from the right-wing this season. In 22 league appearances he’s found the back of the net 11 times for Stuttgart. Already a superb attacking winger, at 21 he’s got room to improve and become one of the finest wingers in the league following in the footsteps of Raphinha if he was to move to Leeds. He’s also not foreign to playing for recently promoted teams as he helped Stuttgart gain promotion in 2020. That means he’s also more than capable of adjusting to a new league.
Adama Troare
Over the last few transfer windows, Leeds have registered an interest in the Spanish flier. He impressed last season with 11 goal involvements in the Premier League for Wolves as they finished 7th. He’s enjoyed less game time this season and needs something to reignite his form. A move to Elland Road and working under Marcelo Bielsa would certainly provide that. Reports say Leeds are preparing a bid for the winger so a move could be likely.
Riyad Mahrez
This might be a difficult signing for Leeds to nail down but with Mahrez likely on his way out at Manchester City, Leeds should considering swooping in for the winger. The 2016 PFA Player of the Year has been a class act for both Leicester and Man City over the last five years and despite being towards the end of his career he still has definite class. A move to Leeds would offer him consistent game time and a chance to prove his quality once more. I know it sounds like a big ask for Leeds to bring in a Premier League winner, but United are a big club with superb new investment. It’d be worth a punt.
