Now that Leeds United have officially been promoted to the Premier League, the real work begins. Daniel Farke and the recruitment team have a job on their hands to get a squad good enough to survive in the top flight.
Leeds started the game on Monday like a house on fire. Joel Piroe scored in the sixth minute to give them the lead, and the team added four more goals before the half time break. Wilfried Gnonto added a sixth goal in the second half to put an exclamation mark on the result.
Despite a stunning 6-0 win over Stoke City, the result that actually got Leeds promoted came later in the day. Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United needed a win to stand any chance of catching up to the two teams. Scott Parker’s side held firm and won 2-1 to book their promotion.

Leeds and their fans will be jubilant about their return to the Premier League, but Tim Sherwood had some concerns. While on commentary, the former Spurs manager said Leeds will have to spend to improve their squad to survive the Premier League:
“I, for one, am very pleased that they’re coming to the Premier League.
“We miss them in the Premier League. We like to see huge teams in the Premier League.
“I just hope they can spend money and put up a better show of staying in the league than the teams that came up this year.” he said on Sky Sports commentary.
Sherwood is right about the spending
Making sure your squad is good enough to survive the season is key. Many teams get promoted and rarely buy good players and get sent back down to the Championship.
According to Transfermarkt; Southampton spent £105million, Ipswich Town spent £131million and Leicester City spent £78million.
All three spent over £70million, and close to £100million at that. Spending is relative, but Leeds will need to know that they will have to splash the cash to get quality players in the summer, as they prepare for the Premier League.
