It is early in the season but these next few games for Leeds United feel like relegation clashes. After the shock defeat to Burnley, the narrative around the club’s season has completely changed.
Daniel Farke pointed to this after he beat Wolves last month; he said that at Elland Road, the narrative at the club changes after every result. And it recently happened, after losing to Burnley, the atmosphere around the club is all doom and gloom. But weeks before that, all everyone could talk about was how well Leeds had done this season and how difficult they are to beat.
The Whites were able to challenge big clubs like Bournemouth and Spurs in recent games, but the loss to Burnley was a bit unexpected. This Friday, Leeds have a huge game against West Ham. The Hammers are looking for their firs win under Nuno Espirito Santo and Daniel Farke’s side are looking to snap out of this poor run of form.

It is very early in the season, but some people have already made up their minds about where Leeds could end up. While some have been optimistic since the start of the season, others have outright dismissed the Whites’ chances. Tim Sherwood is the latest to give his verdict on if the club will survive this season. The former Spurs boss thinks that Leeds, Wolves and Burnley will be the three sides to go down at the end of the campaign:
“Wolves have it all to do in January to get them out of trouble with this current squad.
“Burnley might not have enough. And I think Leeds might go as well.” he said on Sky Sports.
On the outside, the club’s recent run of form is very close to relegation form. Leeds have not won a game in their last three, and if they fail to get a result against West Ham, they would have just two wins in 10 games in all competitions this season.
Daniel Farke’s attack is a real problem
Leeds United have one of the worst attacking units in the league – they have scored just seven goals, which is near the bottom of the competition. And the worst part is their finishing.

The Whites have managed 10.0xG (expected goals) and have only managed to score seven goals. And the guilty parties are currently Daniel Farke’s first choice front three – Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brenden Aaronson.

This last game against Burnley saw Aaronson miss a crucial chance to turn the tide in the game. In the last few games, Leeds could have gotten more points and better results if they managed to put the ball in the back of the net. Hopefully the attack finds their shooting boots if they want to stand a chance at survival this year.
