Former Leeds United standout Archie Gray spoke to Sky Sports about how his new teammates at Tottenham Hotspur have welcomed him. Moreover, he notes that Son Heung-min is one of the players looking out for him as he transitions to the North London club.
Last season, Gray played in 52 matches for Leeds and contributed two assists. Despite his young age, he displayed versatility, stepping in as a right-back and playing in the midfield throughout the campaign.
During the summer transfer window, the Yorkshire side sold their rising star to Tottenham for a reported £30 million. Spurs have landed a standout player who has only begun tapping into his potential.
Son Heung-min provides leadership for Archie Gray
While Gray burst onto the scene last season with Leeds and nearly earned promotion to the Premier League, the teenager is heading into a new city, league, and dressing room dynamics. As a result, Son is making sure the ex-Leeds youth product adapts and can help their squad.
“Sonny has been helping us with everything, especially us [Gray and Lucas Bergvall]. But everyone in general, he’s always looking after the squad and everyone knows what he is. He’s a great role model and obviously a great player, but off the pitch, he’s such a nice guy. He always looks after everyone. Someone like in the squad is priceless and especially for him to be captain is just amazing.
“For me, he’s been really helpful for me and I can’t thank him enough for that. But there’s also loads of other players like Ben Davis who’s been looking after me and Fraser [Forster]. He’s also looked after me. Brennan [Johnson], Madders, all of them. They’ve been amazing for me so far.”
The 18-year-old has played five times for Spurs this season as the North London club gradually integrates him into the starting lineup. So far, Gray has made two starts in the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League under manager Ange Postecoglou.
It will be interesting to see if Gray earns more starts in the Premier League as the season progresses or if he’ll primarily be used in domestic cups and the Europa League this year.
