Tottenham Hotspur have become the latest in a line of clubs interested in acquiring the services of Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto, with London World reporting that Ange Postecoglou’s side may make a concrete approach for the Italian youngster in the coming days.
The development comes after Spurs forward Harry Kane’s high-profile move to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich was completed over the weekend, producing the need for reinforcements to Tottenham’s forward line.
Whilst Leeds’ Gnonto may not function as a direct replacement for Kane, there is no doubt that he would bring flair and technical ability to Spurs’ forward line following his breakout season in West Yorkshire last term.
And, with the 19-year-old currently occupying a tenuous position at Leeds following his refusal to participate in the club’s last two competitive fixtures, the opportunity very much exists for Tottenham to swoop.
Spurs may face difficulty in acquiring Gnonto’s services however, given that Leeds are insistent that the young Italian international is not for sale after reportedly rejecting a bid from Everton earlier this summer.
London World’s report values Gnonto at around £20m, yet the feeling persists around Elland Road that a much higher fee would be needed to make the Yorkshire giants contemplate a sale.
Leeds continue their Championship campaign on Friday 18th August when they host West Bromwich Albion, with Daniel Farke’s side still in search of their first league win.
