Tottenham make surprise move for Leeds United target – £32m deal uncertain

Leeds United are moving quickly to finalise several deals before the transfer window closes on September 1st. The club are focused on bolstering their attack and injecting more creativity into the squad in the final weeks of the window.

The Whites got off to a brilliant start to the Premier League season on Monday night, when they beat Everton 1-0 at Elland Road. The three points provided an early boost to their confidence, but they are aware that the squad need more quality to survive in the top flight by the end of the campaign.

Leeds signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer last week, and are on the cusp of adding one more winger to the squad in the form of AC Milan star Noah Okafor. The Swiss forward underwent a medical on Wednesday, and his arrival is expected to be confirmed later today by the club.

The club are still in the market for one more striker, an attacking midfielder and a full-back, which has emerged as a major priority towards the end of the window due to Isaac Schmidt wanting to leave the club in the coming days.

Tottenham make move for Leeds United target Bilal El Khannouss

Leeds have held talks with his representatives and offered the Leicester attacking midfielder a contract. However, he has delayed his transfer decision.

The Whites appear to be the underdogs to sign him as Crystal Palace have an agreement in place with the player and are now pushing to finalise a deal worth £32m with Leicester.

However, according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Tottenham have made a move for El Khannouss after missing out on Eberechi Eze, who is set to join Arsenal.

He told TBR Football: “Tottenham have enquired about the situation surrounding Bilal El Khannouss, who Crystal Palace have agreed terms with to replace Eze.

“However, despite El Khanouss agreeing to join Palace, the deal is not done.

“I have also been told that Spurs have again asked about Savinho, but they have received no encouragement from City.

“Tyler Dibling is another player on Tottenham’s radar, and Spurs have maintained an interest in him, too. Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott is another one they admire.

“Tottenham are working hard; they already know the market.”

El Khannouss appears to be beyond Leeds’ reach now

Leeds made an early move for the Moroccan attacking midfielder and were prepared to trigger the release clause in his contract, before it expired last week.

For a while, the Whites were the only club to make a concrete offer for him, but it seems El Khannouss was waiting for more offers on his table.

He appeared to be on his way to Palace to replace Eze, who agreed to join Spurs before changing his mind when Arsenal came in for him.

Tottenham are now trying to hijack Palace’s pursuit of El Khannouss, who was one of Leeds’ top targets this summer.
