Tottenham stance on Archie Gray as Leeds United move looms

Leeds United are yet to find out what will happen with Archie Gray in January.

The teenage midfielder left Elland Road in the summer to join Premier League side Tottenham. So far, Gray has not featured much for the club in the Premier League. The big money summer signing has only made five substitute appearances in the league so far.

Gray has played almost every game in the EFL cup and the Europa league, mainly at right back. The lack of minutes, and playing the former Leeds star out of position has lead to reports that Spurs may look to loan Archie Gray in January.

Leeds United continue to be linked with Archie Gray as the fans at Elland Road expect a reunion with one of their favorite academy graduates. Gray had a breakout season last year, where he won Leeds Young player of the Year and was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year.

Spurs are reportedly anticipating offers for Gray during the January window. However, former Leeds man Paul Robinson has rejected the idea that Spurs would loan Gray down to the championship, considering how much they spent to sign him:

“I think it’s just complete nonsense. The young lad has only just signed for Tottenham. He’s gone on a big-money move and will take a while to settle in. He hasn’t started that many games but he starts in Europe.” He said to MOT Leeds News.

“He’s played centre-back, right-back, but not really his preferred role in midfield. Tottenham aren’t going to buy a player and then loan him out five months later. He’s a good quality, young player and it won’t take much for Spurs to rebuff any kind of loan approaches made for him.

“He’s a young player who has gone to a huge football club and it will take him a while to settle in. To go straight into the first team was always going to be a big ask. It was probably never a possibility.”

Archie Gray could be heading elsewhere in January

If all the noise around Archie Gray is true, he will probably end up at another Premier League club. Carlton Palmer recently suggested that the midfielder may go on loan to a team like Leicester City or Southampton.

Leeds will need a creative midfielder, with Daniel Farke having pushed to sign Gus Hamer in the summer. Brenden Aaronson has done a decent job, but he is more of a goalscorer than a creative influence.

On the bright side for Leeds United, Daniel Farke could have both Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev back by January as the club chases Premier League promotion.
