Tottenham to beat Leeds United to the signing of Southampton star – £15M rated man set to be available for free

With Leeds United literally a few games away from winning promotion, the club can start focusing on building a squad for the Premier League. Fans should hope there is no repeat of what happened last summer.

Heading into this season, Leeds waited till the last minute before getting signings in before the deadline. Daniel Farke’s targets were ignored, and he only got some of the players he asked for. When it comes to Premier League football, Leeds cannot afford to repeat these mistakes.

The club need to act fast in the transfer market and sign quality players to survive.

In January, Leeds attempted to sign Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters. The move did not pan out, mostly because he did not want to drop down a division in the middle of the season. Walker-Peters was also available for around £7million as the Saints wanted to cash in on him before his contract expires, but Leeds backed out of the deal.

The fullback will be a free agent this summer, and Leeds United are expected to push to sign him again. However, their efforts will be rivalled by Tottenham, who also hold an interest in the 28-year old. Walker-Peters is expected to favour a return to his former club, but Leeds, Chelsea and West Ham are also monitoring the situation.

Daniel Farke could move for a defender, after starting plans to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

Kyle Walker-Peters was never signing for Leeds

Sometimes as a newly-promoted club you have to understand that top Premier League clubs will always have the advantage. Just like when Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter were snapped up after Leeds failed to win promotion last year, the same things will happen this summer.

Leeds’ best bet will be to try and repeat their 2020 summer window, where they targeted lesser known talents that really didn’t have many suitors. Raphinha, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente all arrived at Elland Road, and for the large part were decent quality signings.

Daniel Farke and the recruitment team need to try and focus on getting the same level of players when the club are officially promoted.
