Transfer fee and salary revealed as Leeds United confirm fourth signing of the summer

After signing Lukas Nmecha, the next few weeks of the summer window were a bit slow for Leeds United. But since a few weeks ago, the transfer activity has burst into life.

Leeds have signed Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw in quick succession. The club still had one gaping hole to fix. Junior Firpo left the club after failing to sign a new deal. The 28-year old was out of contract at the end of June, and did not take the club’s offer on the table.

The Whites have now addressed the hole at fullback in the last few hours. Reports indicate that Sam Byram is about to sign a new one-year deal to remain at Elland Road.

And Leeds United have now confirmed the arrival of left back Gabriel Gudmundsson. He had been admired by the Whites for a while, and they had him at the top of their shortlist. Gudmundsson arrived on Monday to finalize his deal, and has now been officially unveiled as a Leeds United player.

The 26-year old said in his first interview with LUTV that the allure of playing in the Premier League for Leeds United convinced him to join the club:

“It feels very good. It’s been a dream for me to come to the Premier League and to sign for Leeds to be a part of that, it feels amazing.

“I think I was growing up watching the Premier League and obviously my father played there as well, so it’s a bit of a connection there already.

“It’s an amazing league and it’s a big competitive league, strongest league in the world I think, in my opinion.”

How much will the new signing be earning?

According to Breren Cross, Gudmundsson joins Leeds from Lille for a £10million fee. He will sign a four-year deal with the Whites.

The Swedish Express are reporting that the player will earn around 50million SEK (Swedish Krona) which is just over £70,000-a-week.

What does Gudmundsson bring to this Leeds team

The left back will be expected to replace Junior Firpo next season. But it is not as straightforward as that. Firpo’s productivity was a big part of the team’s attack last season.

Even though Gudmundsson is a solid defender, his attacking metrics are not on Firpo’s level. There is however some promise – he ranks high among Ligue 1 defenders for chances created and accurate crosses. It will be exciting to see what Daniel Farke does with him.
