Leeds United are in the middle of a tight automatic promotion race with Sheffield United and Burnley pushing the Whites this season. However, a win tonight against Millwall will take Leeds back to the top of the Championship table and they remain heavy favourites to get promoted to the Premier League. With Leeds expected to play in the Premier League next season, there is increasing speculation about what they would do in the summer transfer window. The Whites are aware they would have to be as close to perfect as possible in the market to ensure they have a squad ready to survive in the Premier League. Leeds are already focusing on a few firm decisions and it has been claimed that the club have a clear focus early in the summer.
Daniel Farke and his players are focused on ensuring Leeds United get the job done and secure automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
However, the struggles of the three promoted teams this season are a testament to the challenge Leeds would face if and when they return to the top flight of English football.
The widening gulf in quality between the top two tiers of English football has made it harder for teams to get promoted and survive in their first season in the Premier League.
Leeds will have to spend big in the market to retool the squad as there are several players in the squad who will be deemed not good enough to play in the Premier League.
The supporters would want the club have clarity in their plans if they get promoted and it has been claimed that there is a clear focus in Leeds’ strategy for the summer.
The focus for Leeds United has been revealed
If Leeds secure automatic promotion, Leeds would have some more time to plan for the window rather than wait to play in the playoffs and go up.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has been talking about what Leeds are planning to do in the transfer window and the players they would be trying to sign in the summer.
He stressed the priority for everyone at the club is to ensure they secure promotion before they can think about recruitment for the Premier League.
However, Jacobs stressed that there is a clear focus and signing a playmaker and securing the deal to sign Manor Solomon on a permanent contract would be the early priorities.
He also revealed that Southampton’s Cameron Archer very much remains on the forefront of Leeds’ transfer thinking for the summer transfer window.
“The priority is to get promotion and then assess what targets are possible”, Jacobs said on GiveMeSport.
“Leeds are more focused on finding a playmaker and trying to buy Manor Solomon, while Cameron Archer remains on their radar.”
Leeds seem to have a clear focus about what they want to do but there is one worry
Promotion has not been secured yet, but Leeds seem to be thinking on the lines of being a Premier League in the summer transfer window.
Leeds have started planning early for the window and they have been taking some firm decisions ahead of the end of the season, even though they can’t really make moves on players yet.
The Yorkshire giants have decided to try and sign Solomon on a permanent deal from Tottenham and it is one of the priorities for the summer transfer window.
Can you name the season these 10 Leeds United shirts are from?
Brenden Aaronson’s form has come under the scanner and even Leeds are aware that they need a replacement for the number 10 next season if they are in the Premier League.
Leeds fans might not be too enamoured about the club wanting to sign Archer given his form in the Premier League this season, but it appears the Whites have a plan for the Saints star.
Supporters might not agree with every target Leeds go for but they could take solace from the fact that the club appear to have a plan of attack for the summer transfer window.
However, there is one cause for worry. Leeds need a striker and it appears, they are yet to identify one big target for that area of the squad.
