Troy Deeney and Adebayo Akinfenwa discuss Leeds United’s relegation chances

Leeds United will be expecting a bunch of their players to be reporting to Thorp Arch in the next few days. The Whites have a tough away game against Burnley on Saturday.

With Daniel Farke’s recent record against the Clarets, fans will be hoping for a different result this time around. The German failed to beat Scott Parker in two attempts last season. Burnley could be without key man Lyle Foster, who left South Africa’s national team camp before the final World Cup qualification game.

Leeds have had over a week for some of their players to recover from injury. Lucas Perri and Wilfried Gnonto are expected to be available soon, but Dan James is still injured. Others like Noah Okafor and Jack Harrison spent their schedule with personal trainers to ramp up fitness for the upcoming stretch of games.

Much has been made of Leeds’ survival chances, but the club seem to have performed above expectations so far. Daniel Farke’s side sit in 15th place with eight points from seven games so far.

Troy Deeney and Adebayo Akinfenwa were discussing Leeds’ chances of surviving this season on Deeney’s show ”The Football Exchange”.

Akinfenwa said: “Relegation? Relegation. You know who I think’s going to be in trouble this year? West Ham [United].

Deeney replied: “I agree.”

Akinfenwa added: “I think West Ham are in trouble. I think West Ham, Burnley, and actually I’m going to say Leeds. I’m gonna say West Ham, Burnley, Leeds.”

Deeney responded: “Mine at the start of the season was Burnley, Leeds, Wolves.”

Akinfenwa then made his final selection.

“Oh, to be fair, I did forget about Wolves. Oh, toss up between Wolves and Leeds. I forgot about Wolves. But I do actually think West Ham.

“Oh, they just got Nuno to be fair. No, I’m going to go Wolves, Leeds, and Burnley.”

Daniel Farke’s changes have made a huge difference

Since the game against Fulham something has changed with this Leeds side – tactically, Daniel Farke has made some tweaks. Some players have also been introduced into the lineup like Brenden Aaronson and Sean Longstaff.

Leeds could have won their last two games against Bournemouth and Spurs, but their finishing let them down. If the team does find their scoring boots this season, they stand a real chance of survival.
