Saturday was yet another game that Leeds United could have won. In the lead up to the game against Burnley at Turf Moor, the Whites looked like the favourites after their start to the season.
Scott Parker’s side had only lost one game all season before the visit of Leeds. And the visitors were shocked as the Clarets took the lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. Lesley Ugochukwu connected with a Kyle Walker cross to head home past Karl Darlow. Questions should be asked about how the defenders left the Burnley star unmarked near the middle of the box.
Leeds had chances to equalize before half time, but failed to tie the scores. In the second half, Daniel Farke’s side went on the offensive – dominating the game and creating many big chances. The Whites ended the game with 19 shots, 4 big chances and 2.63 expected goals.
Farke made this claim that not every team can come to Turf Moor and dominate:
“Went wrong in both boxes. Cannot have better stats than we did away from home today.
“Possession, shots, big chances, xG, corners. Even when Arsenal, Man City et al come here they will not repeat that.”

Former Premier League stars Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer discussed the game between Burnley and Leeds United on The Rest is Football podcast. And both agreed that coming to Turf Moor is a difficult prospect for many sides. The duo indirectly supported Daniel Farke’s claim that playing Burnley at home is not easy.
Lineker spoke: “A word on Burnley. You’ve got to make your home games count and Turf Moor is a difficult place to play,”
Shearer then added: “31% possession they had, at home. Leeds had 17 shots in the box.
“21 efforts at goal,”
Lineker replied: “The Newcastle goalie played well didn’t he, Dubravka. And what a goal by the way, Loum Tchaouna. Great name, great goal,”
Leeds United need to convert their chances
Saturday’s game was the third result in a row where Leeds lost despite creating the better opportunities. They have gotten just one point from Bournemouth, Spurs and Burnley. Ultimately, to survive this league you need goals, and the Leeds attack are not providing that at the moment. Daniel Farke has a lot to think about before the West Ham game.
