Turned down Leeds United – Now £22m striker left in career limbo

Leeds United have done decent business in the ongoing summer transfer window, with six new players joining the squad that won the Championship and earned promotion to the Premier League last season. The club are still looking to bring in a top striker to bolster their goal-scoring threat in the top flight.

Anton Stach became the sixth new player to join the Leeds squad this summer on Tuesday after he completed a £17.4m move from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim. He is the second midfielder to join the Yorkshire giants since last week, when Sean Longstaff moved in from Newcastle United.

Leeds have also bolstered their defensive options through the additions of Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Sebastiaan Bornauw. The club are also working on a deal to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier who has emerged as a target for Leicester City this summer.

However, the Whites are expected to focus hard on adding more goals to their squad, and signing a striker is a major priority for the club before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window.

Nikola Krstovic stuck in limbo after turning down Leeds United

Krstovic emerged as a top target for Leeds earlier in the transfer window as part of their plans to sign a striker early in the summer to bolster their options.

The Lecce striker scored 11 times in Serie A last season, and Leeds felt that the forward has it in him to come in and make an impact in the Premier League.

Leeds also tabled a bid with Leece to sign him but Krstovic turned down a move to Elland Road as he wanted to stay in Italy and was confident of getting an offer from a bigger club.

However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the forward is now in a limbo as no big club in Italy are yet to show any concrete interest in him.

Leeds are the only club who made an offer for him this summer, but since turning them down, Krstovic is struggling to attract bidders in the ongoing window.

There is still a belief that he will leave Lecce by the end of the transfer window, but so far, Leeds are the only club who made an offer to sign him this summer.

Leeds have moved on from Krstovic

Once it became clear that the striker didn’t want to join Leeds, the club have moved on and brought in a few players to bolster their squad.

A striker remains a priority, but Leeds have identified Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz as their top target and have made progress in talks with the player’s camp.

Leeds are also waiting for Igor Paixao, who is keen on a move to Marseille, but talks between the French giants and Feyenoord have stalled over a fee.

Krstovic is no longer on Leeds’ radar and the club are unlikely to go back for him later in the transfer window.
