Last night Kalvin Phillips became the first Leeds player to secure a place in the Euros final as he and England secured their place in Sunday’s decider against Italy.
It was another superb performance from the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ and his teammates. Phillips played the full 120 minutes and never looked out of place on the grandest stage. He was key to the win.
Well, that was my view at least. But how did social media react?
Amongst all the huge moments during the performance, plenty of Leeds fans jumped to a sublime touch from Phillips as their moment of the match.
Touch of the tournament right there from @Kalvinphillips

This is why they call him the Yorkshire Pirlo. One of the touches of the tournament. pic.twitter.com/Lv08ty7PWj

It wasn’t just Leeds fans he impressed with his superb showing. He also caught the eye of Ashley Cole and fans enjoyed watching the ex-Chelsea man eat his words.

Plenty looked at his statistical showing to showcase his magnificent performance. Some of the stats were simply amazing especially how far he ran.
England’s 15 players ran 139km collectively tonight. @Kalvinphillips ran 15km alone – 11% of the team’s total 🤯🤯🤯

Someone pointed out that he didn’t run as much as he would’ve done at pre-season with Leeds, however.

But the best story for Phillips and his fans was the tribute he made to Granny Val.
I was very moved by this, not only because so many people have lost people they loved these 16 months, but because this touching tribute is another reminder that Southgate and his team are so much nicer than the Tory politicians who are now crawling over them #kalvinphillips pic.twitter.com/GPa7U9iE4L

Let’s hope he can bring the Euros back for her and the whole nation.
