Luis Suárez, possibly the greatest striker of his generation needs no introduction to even the casual football fanatic. Marcelo Bielsa on the other hand holds a smaller fanbase but is a mainstay for Leeds United fans.
After a four-season stint at Leeds United, Bielsa went on to coach the Uruguayan national football. The Argentine gaffer still works as a head coach at the Estadio Centenario.
Luis Suárez currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS alongside former teammate Lionel Messi. The striker remains a regular in the Uruguayan national football team despite entering his late 30s.
Although Bielsa helped La Celeste reach the semi-finals of the 2024 edition of Copa América, El Pistolero went on to harshly criticize El Loco at the program De fútbol se habla así.
In the Copa América there were situations that hurt me, which I did not say for the sake of coexistence.

The striker criticized Bielsa for his harsh ways and the way he treated Agustín Canobbio. The Paranaense attacker was used very little despite training him with the regulars.
I support Canobbio for what happened. On many days he made him do exercises with the players who were sparring and that is a complete lack of respect.

Luis Suárez opens up regarding head coach Marcelo Bielsa
Suárez also highlighted El Loco’s closed personality as the head coach didn’t even consider greeting the national team players. The former Liverpool striker doesn’t seem to have adapted to Bielsa’s personality well.
Many players held a meeting to ask the coach to at least say good morning to us, but he didn’t even say hello.

Marcelo Bielsa is known for his strictness both on and off the pitch. One day the Argentine manager even asked the players to not greet the people in New York.
Bielsa gives a conference and talks wonderful things about people and in New York there was a day when he asked us not to stop to greet people; I stopped and told him that we were going to greet people anyway.

The former Leeds United manager also wasn’t open to change when confronted by Suárez. Marcelo seemed to just move on with a “thank you” after Luis’s confrontation.
One day I had a 5-minute chat with Bielsa, speaking as a role model, and at the end he only replied ‘thank you very much’.
