Before Daniel Farke was hired by Leeds United, the club were in pretty rough shape. After Marcelo Bielsa, things had not been stable at Elland Road.
The Argentine coach guided them to the top flight, and survived their first season back in the Premier League. But the club failed to improve upon the team that survived.
This lead to Bielsa parting ways with the Whites, who hired Jesse Marsch.
The former Red Bull coach came in and helped Leeds avoid relegation that year. However, he did not complete his first full season in charge, and was sacked after January.
The club tried to save themselves, and hired Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce a few weeks later.
But the efforts were in vain as Leeds were relegated.
Roy Keane slams former Leeds manager ahead of the World Cup
Canada are co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, and will kick off their campaign this week.
When discussing the nation’s chances at the tournament, Roy Keane was critical of Jesse Marsch, who is currently in charge of the Canadian national team.
“Jesse Marsch, he has done so well with Canada.” Carragher said on The Overlap.
Keane replied: “Oh, lads, you love Jesse Marsch?
“When we were going up to Leeds, and oh, he was unbelievable!! Never won a game.
“The two of them [Neville and Carragher], are going, ‘his sides were unbelievable’.
“He couldn’t win a game at Leeds!”
Roy Keane has not been a big fan of Jesse Marsch since his time in charge at Leeds United. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher once praised the American when they covered a game involving Leeds during that time
But the former Manchester United midfielder refused to praise a coach of a team in poor form.

Jesse Marsch’s time at Elland Road was not pleasant
Following the footsteps of Marcelo Bielsa was always going to be difficult for any Leeds boss after the Argentine. He was charismatic and won over the fanbase during his time there.
Some were sad to see him go, and when Marsch came in, they directed their anger towards him.
When he did manage to steer the team clear of relegation, he raised the clubs hopes. He was backed the following summer, with a lot of expectations on him.
But he delivered one of the worst campaigns as a Leeds coach, and was sacked. Fans will always point to him as the cause of the club’s eventual relegation that year.
