“Victor Orta is a reference point” – Shocking praise for ex-Leeds United man

Victor Orta is not a popular figure at Leeds United. He is blamed for some of the mistakes the club made in the transfer window following their promotion in 2020, and the contracts he handed out hamstrung the club following their relegation in 2023.

Orta’s contracts meant Leeds had little leverage on players who wanted to leave following their relegation. Several players left the club on loan, with the Whites having no say in the negotiations.

The Spaniard’s mistakes at Leeds really hamstrung the club in the market, and the club had to undergo a lot of hardship to make the club financially stable again through several player sales.

Orta has continued to attract interest from several Spanish clubs. Although Sevilla dismissed him in June, he has since returned to work with Real Valladolid.

Victor Orta is magnificent – Former Aston Villa dealmaker

Orta built the team that got Leeds promoted under Bielsa. However, his mistakes in the market after that really set the club back.

However, he has a huge reputation in European and Spanish football, and Monchi, who was Orta’s mentor at Sevilla previously, is a big fan of the Spaniard.

He believes the former Leeds man’s CV speaks for him, and he is a huge reference point for sporting directors in European football.

“Victor seems like a magnificent professional to me”, Monchi told El Desmarque.

“He is a reference in the world of sports management, and his CV is there.

“If you have to ask me about Victor, I think he is an excellent professional.”

Orta is unlikely to ever repair his reputation at Leeds

Leeds fans have not forgiven the Spaniard for the way his time at Elland Road ended, and the huge mistakes he committed towards the end.

He signed several players who turned out to be flops or moved on from the club once they were relegated from the Premier League in 2023.

Leeds were particularly annoyed at the relegation clauses in the contracts, which allowed players to leave on simple loan deals as long as clubs were prepared to pay their full wages.

The club had little financial leverage, and the club were forced to find more creative ways to bring in funds and sign players.

Therefore, Orta may have a great reputation in Spain, but at Leeds, he is persona non grata.
