Leeds United director of football Victor Orta believes the club can one day have the same commercial success of Liverpool.
Orta is with the club in Spain as they prepare for the second half of the season during the World Cup break. He believes that the clubs’ commercial figures in shirt sales and television figures is up there with the biggest teams in the Premier League.
With the club’s recent return to the Premier League putting them in front of a global audience, Leeds United has seen commercial success expand dramatically year after year.
Orta was speaking to Spanish outlet, Onda Cero: “Although someone doubted that Bragarnik was going to bring a top-level rival to this tournament, Leeds is the seventh team in Premier League television audience, the fourth in jersey sales, the one that buys the most tickets from visiting fans and the second with the second highest percentage of attendance at its stadium, only surpassed by Liverpool; that opinion proves to be banal and sheer ignorance,”.
Does Victor Orta have a point?
Yes, playing in the Premier League the club will see success and revenue being boosted. However the club must remain there long term to see the benefits. With the club’s inactivity to spend and improve the team, Leeds might lose their biggest factor behind their commercial success – the Premier League.
