Marcelo Bielsa is a manager who prefers to keep his younger players training with him. Once a player leaves the club on loan, it usually means that they most likely won’t have a future at the club.
But this isn’t the case with Ian Poveda, who joined Blackburn Rovers on a season long loan on Monday night. “We feel Ian can make an impact here in the future” Orta began to explain his reasoning for letting Poveda leave.
Leeds are well stocked on the wings in terms of personnel. Jack Harrison and Raphinha are the obvious starters, whilst Helder Costa serves as the backup winger. The development of Crysencio Summerville seems to have pushed Poveda further down the pecking order, meaning he was in dire need of some first team football. That’s where Blackburn come in.
Orta explained how he was impressed with Blackburn’s development of Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliot last season and hopes to see Poveda follow a similar trajectory. “we’ve been very impressed with how Blackburn have developed players such as Harvey Elliot at Liverpool”.
Poveda could make his debut this weekend against Middlesbrough, and Leeds fans will be keen to see how the 20 year old gets on.
