‘Waiting for the muscle to grow back’ – Leeds United star opens up on horror injury

Leeds United are currently dealing with a couple of injury issues. Wilfried Gnonto has been recovering from a calf injury, and Daniel James sustained a fresh ankle injury last week during training and is not expected to be back until after the November international break.

However, a few Leeds players currently out on loan are also dealing with serious injury problems at this stage of the season.

Max Wober, who has been on Leeds’ books since 2023, left the club on a season-long loan deal to join Werder Bremen, but has not played a single minute of Bundesliga football due to a hamstring injury he suffered in mid-August.

The Austrian defender was plagued with injuries last season as well and was down the pecking order at Elland Road in the summer, which led to him leaving on loan to return to Germany.

The Leeds United defender details his horror injury

Wober picked up a hamstring injury in a game against Arminia Bielefeld in mid-August, and it was a significantly damaging problem for the defender.

The Austrian expects to return after the November international break but admitted he can’t begin rehabilitation until the muscle has fully grown back.

He admitted that it was a structural injury, which he didn’t realise during the game, and he is keen to return to rehab as soon as possible.

“Now it’s all about getting the muscle to grow back, then I can fully concentrate on rehab”, Wober told Sky Deutschland via Fussball. Transfers.

“That [injury] caused a structural injury to the muscle.

“The muscle gradually tore. I didn’t really notice it during the game.

“Shortly afterwards, I was diagnosed with a muscle tear and a torn muscle bundle.

“Since then, I’ve been fighting to get back as quickly as possible.”

Leeds have a financial stake in ensuring that Wober gets fit soon

Bremen signed him on loan with an option, and Leeds hope that the German club will sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

However, Wober has not played a minute of Bundesliga football, and prospects of the club taking up the option on him seem slim at the moment.

The defender will have to return to action towards the end of the area and prove his mettle in games for the German club for them to consider signing him on a permanent deal.

However, it will be an uphill task as the 27-year-old will need some time to get his sharpness back before he can perform at his best again.

Wober has no future at Leeds going forward, and the club will bank on him doing enough for Bremen to take up the option on the defender next year.

Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?
