Despite helping Leeds United to promotion in 2019/20, Kiko Casilla will always be remembered for his ability to come up with a costly mistake in goal.
He infamously played his part in the play-off semi-final collapse against Derby and seriously struggled in the FA Cup defeat to Crawley last season. All of this built up to his departure this summer.
Unsurprisingly, the former Real Madrid keeper moved back to Spain with Elche. Although he’s joined the La Liga side initially on loan, it’s suspected that it’ll become his permanent home next season.
Well, that is if he can produce better performances than the one that cost his new team today.
On his return to Madrid, he came up against reigning Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid in matchday two. Elche had worked hard to frustrate the Champions for the majority of the first half before Casilla conceded a remarkably soft goal.
The former Leeds man completed missed a speculative ball from midfield which had found its way into his box. His mistake allowed Angel Correa to sneak in and put the ball into the back of an empty net.
Dando por hecho que un gran portero pero portero…., que al igual que en Inglaterra en España el portero puede jugar con las manos #KikoCasilla pic.twitter.com/jb1jSz1ZLu

That would go on to be the only goal of the game with Elche trying their best to find an equaliser even dominating possession with 59% of the ball but ultimately Casilla’s mistake cost them a point leaving them 16th in the table.
