Leeds United marked their return from the international break with a crucial 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Elland Road on Friday night, a key result against a promotion rival.
The Yorkshire side need to regroup quickly as they take on Watford this Tuesday night, following the latter’s Saturday loss to Luton Town. The Whites are pushing for a second straight win to maintain their grip on second place as the competition heats up.
The Hornets are set to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday night, and they’ve had a tough time away from Vicarage Road this season, losing four of their five matches. This past weekend, they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Luton Town as their road form continues to struggle.
Due to their loss to Luton Town, manager Tom Cleverley met with his Watford coaching staff before their upcoming trip to Elland Road to address the team’s road struggles.
“There’ll be an inquest into what we can do as a coaching staff to make the players realise, but for me it’s an away form thing and it’s something we really have to address,” Cleverley said this past weekend. “We are flat away from home, we’re not committing to trying to play football and we’re just not standing up to the battles well enough either.
“So that will result in some shaky performances and it’s absolutely my responsibility to make sure the team looks like it has an identity away from home and can start picking up results.”
Watford dealt injury blow ahead of Leeds United match
Angelo Ogbonna limped off the pitch late in Watford’s 3-0 loss to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. Ahead of the key match against Daniel Farke and his team, Cleverley offered an update which doesn’t bode well for the visitors who are trying to improve their road form.
“The early signs for Angelo are not great, and it looks like he’s had a recurrence of the hamstring issue he suffered at the end of the Middlesbrough game,” Cleverley said (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post).
“He’ll miss out tomorrow night. He had a scan this morning and I expect him to be out weeks rather than months. The timing of Francisco Sierralta returning has happened at a very good time.”
Leeds United have injury woes of their own which has led to them being linked with a Liverpool ace which you can read about here.
