Daniel James has struggled with fitness this season, and his latest injury now threatens to derail his campaign entirely. Leeds fear he could be sidelined for months rather than weeks.

James returned to the bench in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at Elland Road on Saturday, but remained an unused substitute. Daniel Farke showed extra caution after rushing him back previously.

However, it emerged earlier today that the winger picked up a fresh and more severe injury this week in training and could be sidelined for months due to the latest setback.

Leeds are yet to confirm the injury, and James was named in the Wales squad, who are scheduled to face England and Belgium during the international break, which begins next week.

Craig Bellamy confirmed the injury for Daniel James

There were rumours that James had suffered a serious knee injury, which could keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

However, Wales boss Craig Bellamy squashed that speculation. He confirmed that the winger has picked up an ankle injury, but he has no idea about the severity of it.

He stressed that the Wales camp are still waiting for confirmation and more information on the winger’s injury issue from the Leeds medical team.

“He has an ankle problem”, Bellamy said in a press conference.

“We will wait and see, but nothing has been confirmed.

“We are just waiting for confirmation, really, as it is still too early.”

If it is only an ankle problem, James may just be out for a few weeks rather than months, as was being speculated earlier in the day.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United defenders?
