It came as a shock midweek when it was announced that Leeds United had reached an agreement to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
After being linked with top quality options like Aleksandar Mitrovic and Rodrigo Muniz, going for the former Everton man seemed quite underwhelming.
But after the last few press conferences from Daniel Farke, the club had to speed into action. Many pundits have given their verdict on the 28-year old, with some doubts over his ability to perform for the Whites. Gary Lineker was vocal, saying that Calvert-Lewin is not at a Premier League level anymore:
”He’s never going to be a 20/25 goals a season player even in a side that’s really attacking and has got creative players. I think in the end in football, you find your level.”

Leeds boss Daniel Farke addressed the signing of former Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to him, the striker is a welcomed addition to the team and will boost the quality in attack:
”Dominic is a proven Premier League player. Its important for all new signings, we want to sign players who have delivered on a top level, but they are also in a good age, on their way up the hill, not the way down. These boxes are all ticked by Dominic. He’s in a really good age, proven at Premier League level with more than 200 games and 60 goals. In 11 appearances for the England team, scored four goals. We don’t have to speak about his qualities. He has all the skills you’d like your striker to have.” (quotes via YEP).
What would be a good season for the striker?
The best scenario would be Calvert-Lewin staying fit for the whole campaign and contributing between five to eight Premier League goals. Daniel Farke has other strikers to rely on, but the former Everton man is the only one with top flight experience, and Leeds will no doubt fall on that this season.
