‘We have quietened down a few’ – Chris Wilder could regret his bullishness ahead of Leeds clash

Leeds United’s win over Sunderland this week has nicely set them up for their trip to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United next Monday. The Whites have shifted gears in the last few weeks but the Blades are still just two points behind Daniel Farke’s side. Chris Wilder and his team are managing to remain in the coattails of Leeds and will have a chance to topple them from the summit of the Championship table at home next Monday. The two sides are likely to be the teams who will earn automatic promotion to the Premier League but both teams want the bragging rights of being the Championship winners. The Sheffield United boss has sounded bullish ahead of the top-of-the-table clash but they will face a Leeds side who have been swatting good teams aside.

The Whites have confidence behind them as they prepare for one of the biggest games of the season when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane next Monday night.

The win over Sunderland has ensured that Leed do not necessarily need three points in Sheffield and they would be happy to leave enemy territory with a point in their bag.

However, Sheffield United need to win on Monday night if they have to topple Leeds at the top of the Championship table and a defeat would mean Burnley would be breathing down their neck for the rest of the season.

Chris Wilder has been playing mind games with Leeds by anointing them as the probable winners of the Championship but even he is aware that his side might need to go for a win next week.

Chris Wilder has bragged about quietening down his side’s critics

Sheffield United deserve credit for keeping up against a Leeds side who appear to have gone up a couple of gears in the last few weeks and are swatting aside good teams.

Wilder’s side have won five of their last six league games, including a big win over Middlesbrough at home and a narrow 1-0 victory at Luton Town.

They have ensured that Leeds do not run away with the league and have kept Farke’s side honest at the summit of the Championship table.

His team have a chance to score a big win over Leeds at home next Monday and the Sheffield United boss is sounding bullish after a good run of form.

He believes critics have been coming at his team for a while and Sheffield United have managed to quieten down some detractors in the last couple of weeks.

“I said that after the Watford game, I said it after the Portsmouth game”, Wilder was quoted as saying by the Sheffield Star

“I’m delighted that we quietened a few down after the Middlesbrough game and settled a few down.”

Wilder could regret being this bullish ahead of facing Leeds

Sheffield United will definitely back themselves to get a positive result at home even if their opponents next Monday night is an on-fire Leeds side.

The Blades have a decent record at home and Wilder will back himself to come up with a tactical plan to stop Leeds from being their usual free-flowing selves.

However, Leeds are flying high and have been swatting aside some good teams in recent weeks who were seemingly in form before they faced the Whites.

Sunderland were on an unbeaten run of eight when they visited Elland Road this week and despite playing well, Leeds scored two late goals to send them empty-handed from west Yorkshire.

Sheffield United at home will be a stiff challenge but Leeds’ form suggests that they will be coming to Bramall Lane with the confidence of getting a result.

For all of Wilder’s bullishness, if Sheffield United failed to get a positive result at home on Monday night, he would have to answer a few tough questions.
