Leeds United have had a rollercoaster of a season on their return to the Premier League. Many never gave the Whites a chance before a ball was kicked in the top flight.

Newly-promoted clubs have found it very difficult to stay up in the Premier League, and the last few seasons have proven that. So despite Leeds having one of the best campaigns in recent Championship history, they were not given a chance. And with how the club had a mixed start to the season, no one expected them to stand a chance. But Daniel Farke turned things around near the end of the year, and Leeds started picking up results. Their run at the start of the year put them in a great position for the second half of the season.

Leeds United star opens up on team’s mentality

Since January, Leeds United have made the FA Cup semi-final and only lost four of their 17 league matches. The team have also played some wonderful football, with James Justin revealing the secret behind their recent run.

“I feel like we’ve been competitive in almost every match, bar, I don’t know, maybe three this season,” he told YEP.

“And everyone can see that the Premier League has been so tight this season, whereas obviously the newly promoted sides, the last six have come straight back down. But I feel like we play like men, we’re a lot of people in their ‘prime’ age. We’re fit and we work hard in training so that when it comes to match day, we can keep on going, keep on going, keep on going. And the coaching staff and the physios are really big on that. Fitness and availability also plays a huge role in survival.”

Daniel Farke has made Leeds a hard team to beat

Earlier in the season, fans were not pleased with Daniel Farke’s tactics and team selection. They complained about the players he chose and how he reacted when the team was losing. However, since late November, Leeds have seemingly solved all those problems. The formation switch has made them harder to beat and Farke has got his tactics spot on in games. The Whites have found the right balance between pressing and being conservative, which was key in their unbeaten run these past few weeks. And now, they are on the verge of sealing safety in the Premier League.
