West Ham move could open door for Illan Meslier’s Leeds United exit

Leeds United have brought in seven new signings this summer. The club have only seen one player leave on a transfer.

With just weeks to the start of the Premier League season, Leeds could see some players on the move soon. Max Wober is the only exit this summer, with the Austrian joining Werder Bremen on loan. Many names have been expected to leave Elland Road this summer, but with just weeks till the league kicks off, most are still with the club.

Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood were all on the scoresheet as Leeds’ U21 side won a friendly 10-2 on Thursday.

One name that has been widely expected to leave the club this summer is Illan Meslier. The French keeper was benched at the end of last season, and has already lost his place in the team with the arrival of Lucas Perri.

QUIZ: Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

A move for Meslier may be on the cards after this latest development.

It has been reported that West Ham United have made a formal approach for Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen. The Hammers are keen on signing the Danish star. He will likely become the club’s first choice goalkeeper if a deal goes through.

But for now, both sides need to work out what will be needed for a deal.

Illan Meslier on list of replacements

Leeds stopper Illan Meslier could be the biggest beneficiary if a move for Hermansen is completed.

The Frenchman is on the shortlist of options Leicester will consider as a replacement, according to Ben Jacobs.

“…My expectation is that West Ham are going to approach Leicester for Mads Hermansen, a player Leicester didn’t want to leave 12 months ago at a value of £35m,”

“…Leicester at the same time are advancing on Asmir Begovic who is available on a free transfer, they have discussed Illan Meslier at Leeds who may be available…”

Leeds United need to move one keeper soon

With the Premier League squad registration to be finalized soon, it is quite clear that Leeds will drop one of the four keepers in the team. Each club in the league is allowed to list 25 members for the first team.

One of Karl Darlow, Illan Meslier or Alex Cairns could miss out on place in the team next season. Lucas Perri is expected to be Leeds United number one.
