West Ham star makes candid admission following Leeds United defeat

Leeds United defeat

After losing two games in a row, Leeds United finally flipped the tables against West Ham United as Nuno’s men returned home empty-handed.

Brenden Aaronson didn’t miss his chance this time around. Alphonse Areola saved a header off Noah Okafor, but Aaronson quickly followed up by striking the stray ball into the net.

The Whites were 1-0 up in the first three minutes thanks to the American winger. Joe Rodon didn’t waste time as a corner from Sean Longstaff was enough for the Welsh defender to stick a header into the back of the net.

A last-minute strike from Mateus Fernandes, however, wasn’t enough to spark anything significant in the visitors. The losing streak of Nuno Espirito Santo continued with the manager failing to win a single game since his appointment.

West Ham United star Tomas Soucek wasn’t particularly happy after the Whites managed to steal three points from the Hammers.

Our aim was obviously to score first, but we conceded early, so it was a really tough start. We had a couple of chances to draw level, with Jarrod’s overhead kick and then a header from me, but they got their second.”

“We got a goal, but we were in a losing position for almost all the game, so we know we need to step up. I think we have to continue working hard at being tighter defensively, because it’s always going to be hard to have to score two or three goals to get a result.”

I think we have to start from the defence and then look at creating chances, but overall we have to fight and win every ball. We know we’re in a serious situation, and we can’t let any more games get past us now. We have to step up, improve and start getting points on the board.”

Soucek celebrates 200 games for West Ham United

Interestingly, it was the Czech international’s 200th game for the Irons as the unhappiness was backed by a sentimental defeat at Elland Road.

“I’ve been at the Club for a long time now, and I’m really experienced, so I have to take responsibility and help make sure everyone is doing their job. We all have to be leaders, start showing our quality, and get results for the fans”, Soucek told the press.

Yesterday was my 200th Premier League match. I’m incredibly grateful for my journey with West Ham. Full of amazing moments, but also some disappointments”, the midfielder wrote on social media.
