Why Leeds United could be in serious trouble against Burnley this weekend – numbers do not favour Daniel Farke

Leeds United have had a decent start to the season, they currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League. Their results at the start of the campaign has given a lot of hopes to fans.

Eight points from their first seven games shows that Leeds can be a tough test for opponents in the division. The only embarrassing result the Whites have faced so far is the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Since then, the team have looked much more improved. The Fulham game was a huge turning point – Daniel Farke made some tweaks to the lineup, and even though it did not pay off immediately, there were signs.

Leeds then went on to beat Wolves 3-1, recording their first away win of the season. Farke’s men almost took down Bournemouth at Elland Road, but a late goal denied them all three points. In their last match entering the international break, they suffered a narrow defeat to Spurs.

What has changed in the Leeds United team

Leeds were a bit blunt in attack in their first few games, but Daniel Farke changed the front three for better results. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor came into the lineup alongside Brenden Aaronson. The midfield also saw a huge change as Sean Longstaff came into the team at the expense of Ao Tanaka.

Longstaff’s introduction has given the Whites a more dynamic option, with attacking upside. Calvert-Lewin has lead the line well since he came into the starting lineup – he ranks near the top of the league for non-penalty expected goals. This means that the striker gets on the end of open play chances. Okafor has brought some directness to the attack, with Aaronson providing some defensive balance on the opposite flank.

Daniel Farke’s record against Burnley

Leeds face fellow promoted side Burnley when they return from the international break. With the teams the Whites have beaten early in this campaign, one would expect the same against the Clarets, but Daniel Farke’s record recently has not been the best.

The German has one win in six against the Clarets, with the last victory coming in the FA Cup in 2020. The Leeds boss has also not beaten Scott Parker since he took charge; Saturday’s clash will certainly be an interesting game between both teams.
