Wilfried Gnonto injury update amidst surgery claim

Leeds United had a very tough game against Bournemouth last weekend. Daniel Farke’s side had a strong hold in the game, and should have won but failed to take their chances.

The Whites were so close to getting three points from the game, but a late free kick was volleyed home in injury time to steal a draw. Andoni Iraola praised Leeds for how they played at Elland Road, accepting that his team were second best.

Daniel Farke’s side will be up against Spurs this weekend – Thomas Frank’s side are one of the early title contenders in the Premier League. Tottenham sit in fourth with 11 points from six games. Leeds will hope Elland Road will play a huge factor and they can get another huge result.

Earlier this week, Leeds confirmed that Dan James was out with an injury. Daniel Farke confirmed how long the winger would be out. James is expected to miss this weekend’s game and could be out for up to six weeks.

“Mixed news, I have to confirm that Dan James is out for a few weeks, he has rolled his ankle in training, doctors say 4 to 6 weeks, so after the November international break. That’s not great.”

Farke also confirmed that Wilfried Gnonto is out for the Spurs game. He is expected to be out until after the international break.

“Gnonto will also miss the game, his calf problems are not sorted, not back in team training, after this international break.”

When asked if Gnonto’s injury could require surgery, Farke said it was just a calf strain and that the winger will return to training soon:

“No it’s just a calf strain so no surgery, I am pretty sure he will be back in training within the next week.”

Leeds United attacking options very limited

Leeds will be without Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto this weekend. Harry Gray is also a doubt after he picked up a hip problem. This leaves Daniel Farke with just Lukas Nmecha, Joel Piroe, Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison this weekend.
