With Leeds United unable to land a No. 10 this past summer window, manager Daniel Farke has counted on Brenden Aaronson to fill that position for the Whites so far this season.
The 23-year-old has appeared in eight matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and registering one assist. Moreover, the American has played a full 90 minutes in the last five straight Championship fixtures.
After Leeds was relegated from the Premier League in 2023, Aaronson didn’t participate in the club’s first season in the Championship, where they missed out on promotion by losing the Championship Play-off Final to Southampton.
During his time at Union Berlin, Aaronson featured in 38 matches, scoring two goals and assisting on another two. However, it was a short stay for the U.S. native, as he returned to Leeds after the 2023-24 season.
Wilfried Gnonto opens up about his friendship with Aaronson
In Leeds’ 3-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday at Elland Road, Wilfried Gnonto scored the home side’s first goal. After the match, the forward spoke with CBS Sports Golazo and opened up about his friendship with the United States native. Gnonto didn’t hide that he missed having Aaronson on the squad last season.
“He’s a great guy,” Gnonto told the American outlet. “I knew him from two seasons ago. I can say that I missed him a bit last season. He’s a good guy. He’s hard-working on the pitch but always a funny guy outside. It’s just great to have him. It’s great to have this type of player. I really enjoy him. I can say he’s one of my best friends, probably in the team. I really enjoy playing with him.”

In a recent interview, Aaronson spoke to Sky Sports about his mindset for this season with Leeds as the player looks to redeem himself.
“I have the drive; I know what I want to do this season,” Aaronson said. “I knew I needed to come in and show my worth and show how good I can be. Coming in, I had to be confident and that is what I have tried to be. It is not easy but it has been made easier with the teammates and the coaching staff we have here.”
