£15.6m Leeds United flop shows exactly why Daniel Farke does not trust him against West Ham

As the season has gone on, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has slowly been trusting a core of players in the team. Unlike earlier in the season where he tried to see which players work best, it looks like he has his favourites now.

Joel Piroe was sidelined earlier this season, with Farke explaining that since Leeds do not dominate possession, they needed a better profile up front. He also added that if the club dominated more games, then the striker’s finishing ability would be necessary.

Other players like Sebastiaan Bornauw, Sean Longstaff and Wilfried Gnonto have been out of favour for different reasons as the season has gone on. While the Leeds boss continues to select the likes of Brenden Aaronson in the team.

Lucas Perri proves Daniel Farke right once again

Farke decided to bench Lucas Perri at the end of last year, when the keeper’s errors were costing the team. Karl Darlow has since been the first choice with Perri being the starter in the FA Cup.

On Sunday against West Ham, the Brazilian had a very good game. He kept Leeds United in the tie for most of the game, and was not at fault for the late goals they conceded. And during the penalty shootout, he made two crucial saves that paved the path for victory. The Whites will now face Chelsea in the semi-final later this month.

Despite the heroics in the game, Perri made a mistake in extra time; being at fault for the goal ruled out for offside. This further proves why Farke was right to bench him in the first place.

Leeds United star has a long way to go to get back into the team

Lucas Perri is a good goalkeeper, he showed it at Lyon and early in the season he was a decent choice in goal. But for some reason, it looks like he has declined in his ability in a very short period. His performances in the FA Cup have been very impressive, but last Sunday’s game was tainted with an error that was very lucky to be ruled out for offside. As things stand, it is almost guaranteed that Karl Darlow will be in goal for the final games of the season. Leeds United will have very big decisions to make when the summer transfer window comes around.
