When Leeds United brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, fans were not really pleased with the arrivals. Many were convinced bigger names would arrive in the summer.

Leeds were linked to the likes of Callum Wilson and even Fulham star Rodrigo Muniz. The Whites spent £100 million in the summer transfer window and most of that went into the defence and midfield. Only £18 million was spent on permanent transfers in attack, with Noah Okafor the only signing. Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha were free agent additions.

Many were concerned about their fitness and goal records, but as the season progressed they proved their doubters wrong. Together, they have scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Joel Piroe impresses in Norwich win

But this has all come at the expense of Joel Piroe; the striker was the main man in the Championship – winning the golden boot on the way to promotion. But since the start of the season, he has not had the chance to have a great run in the team. But since the FA Cup 3rd round, he has been used in the cup competition. This weekend against Norwich, he scored his first goal of the season and had an impressive performance.

Even though the goal came against Championship opposition, it was a well taken goal and proves that Piroe can still score goals when needed. A striker who managed 19 league goals last year has not lost his quality even with the increased level of competition.

Striker could be key sub in Leeds United run in

The goals seem to have dried up for Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in the last couple of weeks. Especially in the games against Manchester City and Sunderland, the team looked clueless and could not get the ball up to the striker.

Looking at the circumstances, Joel Piroe could still make an impact for Leeds United off the bench. His finishing ability is still there and he can be an extra body in the box when needed. During this run in, the club needs as many options as possible – goals change games at any moment and Piroe can do that. Daniel Farke has to assess how the striker can play a part in the upcoming games.
