The season is months away from being over but Leeds United already have plans ahead of this summer. The 49ers know that the team needs an injection of quality regardless of where they end up next season.
Major reports coming out of Elland Road point to a new striker coming to the club in the summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a fantastic signing for the Whites, but his recent goal drought since the start of the year has been worrying. Adding that to the fact that the rest of the attack lacks goalscorers, the search for a striker is very high on the list this summer.
Outside that, the club also have to address the list of players near the exit. There are a host of players out on loan who look to have no future at Elland Road, and now Leeds have to make a decision on each of them.
Leeds United target responds to transfer links
The Whites have been linked with a long list of players since January, when the 49ers were looking for reinforcements. Leeds United have been tracking a lot of talents over the last year, in preparation for the Premier League. According to BILD, the Whites are keen on Borussia Dortmund star Daniel Svensson. The defender is drawing interest this season, with Leeds United and Arsenal credited with interest.
When the Swedish international was asked if a summer move is on the cards, he said he was focused on ending this season.
“I’m just focusing on Dortmund. That’s where I am and I’m really enjoying it. It’s not something I have any focus on. We have important games left in the season,” he said, speaking to Fotbollskanalen.
Svensson has four goals and two assists in all competitions this season, playing as a left wingback in the Dortmund system.
Whites need depth at wingback
Even if Leeds United do not manage to land a move for the Dortmund star, left wing back is an area of need. Gabriel Gudmundsson has been the main option this season, and even though he has been a solid addition, there is no depth outside him. James Justin has been preferred on the right side of defence, and even at center back where Farke sees a lot of value in the former Leicester man. The 49ers have a lot of issues to address in this squad heading into the summer.
