49ers’ incompetence could come back to bite them during blockbuster Leeds United transfer pursuit

Leeds United have some major plans in the summer regardless of where they finish in the Premier League this season. The 49ers have ambitions for the team and are not afraid to spend going forward.

One of the main stories out of Elland Road is that the club is eyeing a new striker this summer. Leeds are pleased with how Dominic Calvert-Lewin has turned out, but feel like he needs some competition going into the next campaign. His goal drought since January has also lead to the ownership making this conclusion.

The club will also have to make a decision on a number of players when the season ends, including a number of loanees. It was reported this week that Fiorentina will not be taking the permanent option on Jack Harrison this summer.

Premier League clubs chasing Leeds summer target

Pascal Struijk is also said to be the target of multiple Premier League clubs heading into the summer. Newcastle, Villa and Spurs are reportedly fans of the player’s profile as a left footed center back. Leeds are reluctant to sell one of their best players, but could be forced to if things go wrong in the coming months.

Leeds United have been monitoring young defender Alfie Osborne for the last couple of months. The teenage wonderkid is attracting a lot of interest from English clubs and could leave Hearts this summer. Osborne can be signed for a very low compensation fee, which has made him a very reasonable target for a lot of teams. According to Football Insider, Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace have all sent scouts to monitor the young defender over the last couple of months.

Leeds United project will appeal to wonderkid

When it comes to young prospects, more often than not, playing time is their priority. If they do not have a clear path to the first team, it makes potential transfers very difficult. And out of the clubs mentioned in the report, Leeds United are one of the only clubs who have had a great pipeline over the years. The club has produced Pascal Struijk, Crysencio Summerville and most recently Archie Gray. Thorp Arch also played a huge part in developing other young defenders like Pascal Struijk and Charlie Cresswell. If Alfie Osborne decides to join, he will be in great hands. But that remains to be seen, as the 49ers have been slow to get transfer deals done and lost out to competitors.
