Last season, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made a huge call as he benched Illan Meslier during the run-in. That decision ultimately lead to the Whites winning the Championship on the final day.
In the summer, many fans knew that a goalkeeper was going to be the priority. Leeds splashed the cash and brought in Lucas Perri, who was tipped to be the solution to the goalkeeping problem. But the Brazilian went down with an injury, and Darlow had to step up once again. The Welshman impressed as he deputized for Perri, but Farke was clear on his number one.
When the Brazilian started making mistakes late last year, the Leeds boss once again made the bold call of dropping his first choice keeper. Karl Darlow has been in goal since the start of the year and has impressed.
Leeds United star produces standout display in the international break
Wales faced Bosnia and Herzegovina with a place in the next stage of the World Cup playoffs on the line. Darlow was brilliant on the night and made four saves including one in the penalty shootout. The veteran showed his prowess and was outstanding commanding his box throughout the game. On the ball, he was solid; completing 56 of his 70 passes.
He earned his plaudits on the night and showed how quality of a keeper he was. Craig Bellamy has stuck with him during this qualifying campaign and the 35-year old has repaid him with solid displays. Darlow kept three clean sheets in the qualifiers and was a big reason why the game on Thursday went to extra time.

Leeds need to secure Karl Darlow’s future
Karl Darlow has proved over the last year that he is good enough to be Leeds United number one. He stepped in during the run in last season and helped clinch the Championship, and now he has replaced Lucas Perri successfully. Darlow is an experienced keeper and it is all the reason why the club has to reward him for his services. If he does continue to perform at this rate, then other teams in England will take notice and try to sign him in the summer on a free transfer. Leeds have an uncertain goalkeeping department at the moment and Darlow is the only constant there – the 49ers need to give him a new deal.
