Daniel Farke’s Leeds United squad will likely undergo a drastic change in the summer, regardless of what division they are in.
If United stay up, then players will be brought in to complement the likes of Anton Stach and Gabriel Gudmundsson as the 49ers attempt to solidify Leeds’ position as a Premier League outfit.
However, if the Whites go down, then they will have to reluctantly let go of some key players, with Pascal Struijk being among those with an uncertain future, especially if Leeds get relegated.
But regardless of what division Leeds find themselves in next season, it would be a wise decision from them to keep one player around, who was brought to Elland Road for around £5million last summer.
Leeds should keep Sebastiaan Bornauw next season
Bornauw, like so many others this season, has found gametime hard to come by under Farke.
Whilst Leeds may weigh up selling fringe players such as Willy Gnonto in the summer, it would certainly be a mistake if they attempted to force Bornauw out of Elland Road come the end of the season.
Although the Belgian has struggled with injuries at times throughout his debut campaign in West Yorkshire, he has been reliable when called upon for the most part, and if Leeds want to establish themselves in the Premier League, they will need squad players who can be trusted to perform when needed.
Whilst Bornauw finds himself behind Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol in the pecking order, if the 27-year-old is content to stay and play a bit part role at Leeds and still fight for his place, then Bornauw should certainly be allowed to do so.
Leeds have far bigger problems they must address in their squad rather than signing another back-up centre-back, particularly in the forward areas, so there would be no reason to sell Bornauw unless he attempts to force a move away.

Data suggests Sebastiaan Bornauw has been solid this season
Although the defender has only featured nine times in the Premier League this season, with four of those being starts, Bornauw has performed amicably.
- Leeds have not lost any of the four games Bornauw has started in this season
- Those four games have been against Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea, making this even more impressive
- His best performance of the season was at Anfield, where Bornauw made eight defensive contributions before being subbed off in the 83rd minute as Leeds held Liverpool to a goalless draw (Sofascore)
For the position Leeds are in at the moment, it would be hard for them to find a defender of Bornauw’s quality who would be willing to be a backup option, making the Belgian a valuable part of the squad.
However, given how hard it can be to break into the team under Farke, supporters could not begrudge Bornauw for wanting to leave in the summer, but if the defender’s stay in West Yorkshire does come to an end, then it should be his choice and not the club forcing him out.
