The season is far from over, but Leeds United transfer news has been dominating headlines in the last couple of days. It seems to be quite clear that the 49ers have plans for this summer.

However, those plans will be affected by were the Whites find themselves at the end of the season. Leeds currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League, but are just three points above West Ham in the relegation zone. And after a poor run of results, the club has to make sure not to make any more slip ups from now till the end of the season.

Reports have already emerged that the club are after a center forward; Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a big part of the team this season, but the club have some concerns. The striker has performed so far, but Leeds still feel they need competition for him over the course of a season.

Ao Tanaka update emerges in Leeds United transfer news

According to Football Insider, Ao Tanaka is open to leaving Elland Road in search of first team football in the summer. The Japanese international has lost his place in the starting lineup since the beginning of this campaign. He has found himself behind the likes of Brendan Aaronson and Ilia Gruev in the pecking order. However, the report also adds that Leeds United are not willing to let the 27-year old leave the club at the end of the season. Daniel Farke believes Tanaka is still a big part of the squad he can rely on long term.

Things could change if the 49ers dip into the market early in the transfer window, but as things stand, Ao Tanaka will remain a Leeds United player beyond this campaign.

What do Leeds do with midfielder?

Tanaka was a huge part of the promotion push last season, he was arguably the best player at the club. Leeds United players voted him player of the year for a reason. In the middle of the park, he was solid and barely put a foot wrong. It has just been unfortunate that Tanaka has not really adapted to the Premier League, and Daniel Farke has not really offered him a chance this campaign. He is an important part of this group and has provided solid depth off the bench as the season has progressed. Selling him is an option, but getting a midfielder of his quality at that value is not something you come across every summer.
