‘Bad news…’ – Leeds United handed blunt relegation warning

Leeds United are 15th in the Premier League, sitting four points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left to secure their survival.

It hasn’t been pretty, though. The Whites are on a miserable run, winless in six league matches and goalless for more than 400 minutes, stretching back over a month.

Even so, the sides below them haven’t taken advantage, which has helped Leeds keep a slim but valuable buffer above the bottom three.

Tottenham’s own collapse has briefly made them look more likely to be relegated than Leeds. However, their decision to sack Igor Tudor on Sunday signals an attempt to turn things around, something that could still pull Leeds back into danger.

Robert De Zerbi at Tottenham is ‘bad news’ for Leeds United

The former Brighton and Marseille manager is close to agreeing a deal to become the next Tottenham manager in the coming days.

He was initially reluctant to come in with seven games left in the season. However, Spurs have offered him a five-year contract with a hefty bonus if he can keep the club in the Premier League.

There are question marks over whether he will have enough time to turn things around at Spurs and prevent relegation, but it is being seen as a bold move by a club who have not won a league game in 2026.

De Zerbi’s expected arrival could also shake up the survival race. Tottenham had been viewed as a side in free fall, but this change might just give them a fresh lift.

Football expert Marcus Speller has admitted that the Italian’s potential arrival at Spurs is alarming for teams such as Leeds, who are in the survival fight.

“If they get De Zerbi in, I would think that is bad news for the teams around Spurs”, Speller said on Football Ramble.

The Whites can still control their destiny

Leeds have somehow managed to keep a gap between themselves and the relegation zone, despite failing to win any of their last six Premier League matches.

Wolves and Burnley look all but doomed, while West Ham, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest haven’t done enough to really drag Leeds into trouble.

Premier League 2025/26 Bottom Six Standings
Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
15 Leeds United 31 7 12 12 37 48 -11 33
16 Nottingham Forest 31 8 8 15 31 43 -12 32
17 Tottenham Hotspur 31 7 9 15 40 50 -10 30
18 West Ham United 31 7 8 16 36 57 -21 29
19 Burnley 31 4 8 19 33 61 -28 20
20 Wolverhampton Wanderers 31 3 8 20 24 54 -30 17

That said, West Ham have started to pick up a bit of form, and Spurs will be hoping a potential appointment of Roberto De Zerbi can spark a turnaround in the coming weeks.

If that happens, the pressure will quickly shift back onto Leeds. They need to find a couple of wins soon if they want to move closer to safety.

Relying on other teams slipping up isn’t a plan. Leeds have to take control of their own situation before it’s too late.
