Rafa Benitez is too good for Leeds – Conor McGilligan

Published on

Conor McGilligan says there is no chance Rafa Benitez joins Leeds United because of the threat of relegation.

Leeds sit in 19th place in the Premier League without a win in their last 9 league games. This form led to the sacking of Jesse Marsch, who was in charge of The Whites for over a year.

The club are yet to hire a replacement, with multiple candidates dropping out of the race. Conor McGilligan says Rafa Benitez will also reject the offer because of the threat of relegation:

“Obviously he’s worked at [Real] Madrid, he’s worked at Chelsea but I don’t think Rafa would come. He wants to stay in the Premier League, he wants a project. Are Leeds going to stay in the Premier League? Is he really going to take over a team that is where we are?

“I don’t think he’s ever taken control of a team that is in the position that Leeds are in.”

Michael Skubala will still be in charge of the team as interim manager for upcoming fixtures.
