Leeds United did some serious recruitment in the summer as they prepared for their return to the top flight. But fans had their reservations concerning the signings.
Ultimately, they had a point – out of the £100 million spent in that window, just £18 million was spent on a permanent deal for an attacker. Leeds brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha on free transfers, alongside Noah Okafor who joined the club on a permanent deal.
The lack of quality in attack has ultimately shown in some of the games this campaign. Daniel Farke complained about the lack of quality up front, but the 49ers never delivered his preferred options. Leeds missed out on Bilal El Khannouss and Harry Wilson in the summer window, which was a huge blow.
Leeds United set sights on Southampton playmaker
The club did however land Brighton star Facundo Buonanotte. The Argentine was expected to step in and become the attacking spark for this side, but has so far failed to impress. Multiple reports say he will leave Elland Road at the end of the season if his performances remain the same.
According to SportsBoom, the Whites could give Farke exactly what he wants this summer. Per the report, Leeds are among two other Premier League teams interested in signing Southampton attacking midfielder Finn Azaz. The 25-year old only joined the Saints for this season, but he has made such an impact that teams in the top flight are ready to swoop in. Brighton and Leeds are said to be firmly in the race for the midfielder.

Whites need that creative spark
This season has not been a great one when it comes to attack; last season the club scored 95 goals in the Championship. Even though they lost key players, the attack was not supposed to fall to this level. In crucial games this season, the Whites have struggled to break down low blocks to win games and this has cost them points in the relegation battle.
If the 49ers do their best to bring in a playmaker like Finn Azaz, he would ease the load on the attack significantly. Farke has always made his point that he needed a creative outlet in the team over the last few years. A signing like Azaz could do wonders for the club, who are lacking that specific profile. If Leeds want to tackle any problems surrounding this team in the coming months, the first area they need to improve is upfront.
