This week has not been a great one for Leeds United boss Daniel Farke. After losing to Manchester City over the weekend, his side fell once again in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
In a game that was supposed to see the Whites bounce back from the weekend, Leeds unfortunately slumped to another defeat. Sunderland were the visitors at Elland Road this time around, with Regis Le Bris’ side looking for only their third league win in the calendar year.
With how Leeds began the game, one might have thought they would have won by a wide margin. However, the first half was dull compared to how intense the opening minutes were against Manchester City. The Black Cats got the only goal of the game from the penalty spot and managed to walk away with the three points as the home side struggled to find a way through their defence.
Daniel Farke charged by the FA after Manchester City clash
On Saturday, Daniel Farke saw red after the final whistle in the defeat to Manchester City. The Leeds boss approached referee Peter Bankes after full time and exchanged some words before he was sent off. He had to be held back by his players following the decision. On Wednesday, the Football Association officially charged the German following the incident over the weekend.
The FA released the following statement:
‘Daniel Farke has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League fixture between Leeds United FC and Manchester City FC on Saturday 28 February.
‘It’s alleged that the manager entered the field of play at full time to confront the match official/s, which is contrary to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game, and he has until Friday 6 March to respond.’
Huge blow for Leeds United
In the event where Farke is found guilty and handed a suspension, it means he will not be on the touchline for a number of games. And with just nine games left for the Whites to end the season, the German’s presence on the touchline is sorely needed. Daniel Farke has been integral to the team’s turnaround in form since the end of last year. He has vastly improved on his tactics and team selection during that run. It is quite unfair that he could be punished for sharing his views on the added time on Saturday considering the decisions that went Manchester City’s way. The club will be hoping for an outcome that does not leave a lasting impact on the rest of the season.
