Daniel Farke made some huge calls concerning the Leeds United squad before the season began. Some fans were already anticipating some changes ahead of playing in the Premier League.

The likes of Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph were told to find new plans, and there were more shocking decisions to follow. Farke saw Jack Harrison brought back into the fold after two consecutive seasons away on loan. Leeds United fans were strongly against that, but Farke and the 49ers had already given the green light. The winger played just before leaving on loan in January.

Another decision fans disliked at the start of the campaign was keeping Brenden Aaronson. Although he had no suitors, fans were not happy with him set to play a role in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke opens up on Leeds United star’s struggles

It was clear that the Leeds boss had plans for the midfielder in pre-season, as he tried him in a number of positions. The formation switch in December saw Aaronson become a regular in the lineup. But his form has drastically fallen since then, and Daniel Farke has praised the midfielder ahead of this weekend.

”Pretty happy with Brenden, one of our standout players in terms of end product. Has a top influence after being substituted in, work-rate is never in doubt. There are always ups and downs like all players.

”Recently he lacked a bit of clarity but this is normal. I like his attitude, had to travel a lot but he didn’t play too many minutes. Even he needs time to recover. He looked fresh in training today.”

Brenden Aaronson should lose his place in the team

Games 6 7
Minutes Played 491 492
Goals 3 0
Assists 0 0

Farke is right; when it comes to goal contributions this season, Aaronson ranks highly. He has outscored most players in this Leeds United side. But his run of form since his goals against Newcastle has been appalling. He has not played remotely well and has been very guilty of missing chances and disappearing in games when the team need him. With eight games left this campaign, Farke must be bold and bench underperforming players like the American international. The team needs goals and an attacking edge, and if Aaronson cannot provide that, there are options in the squad to take his place.
