Before their return to the top flight, Leeds United made it known that they would focus on quality recruitment. The Whites brought in 10 players during that summer.
Before the Championship season even concluded, it was revealed that the recruitment team had analysed the squad to see who could fit in when the summer window began. Leeds spent over £100 million and managed to add key players to the team including a new goalkeeper, some defenders and solid additions in midfield.
The attack was lacking as the Whites spent just a fraction of the budget there, recruiting only Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor to cap off the summer spending. Fans complained about the lack of quality entering the season, and it has proved to be correct.
Leeds United transfer plan for this summer revealed
There are a few months to go till the end of the season, but the 49ers already have serious plans for the squad. Regardless how the season ends, Leeds will dip into the transfer market. Reports have emerged that the club is after a new center forward to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The club have lacked goals this season, and the ownership will take steps to address that.
Per Football Insider, Leeds United have aligned their transfer plans with the current 3-5-2 system under Daniel Farke. This means that whoever the club will target must fit the new tactical system currently being used. This new shape has been a game changer for the Whites and has brought them some of their best results since the start of the season.
Daniel Farke is taking a bold decision
Sticking with the 3-5-2 going forward is a really bold decision from the club. This means that in the summer, the team will actively be looking for centerbacks, wingbacks and strikers as the priorities. The team lacked quality and depth in these areas this campaign, and it has been a part of the reason why the club have not been able to turn some results into wins along the way.
The decision might also hurt the team going forward; players like Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto and Jack Harrison are not wingbacks and so will have to change their roles. The 49ers have a lot of decisions to make already and this new policy will add to their list of things to do.
