Leeds United had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Brentford at Elland Road, earning a point in their bid to stay in the Premier League.
It wasn’t the home result they were after, and it stretches their winless run in the league to six matches. Still, they avoided defeat and added something to their tally.
Their advantage over the teams below could shrink depending on other results, and by the end of the gameweek, Leeds could find themselves under real pressure in the relegation fight.
Leeds have not scored a Premier League goal in 419 minutes, and in that context, Daniel Farke’s decision to play Lukas Nmecha on the wing was baffling.
Lukas Nmecha was played out of position against Brentford
Nmecha started against Brentford on Saturday, and there was an expectation that he was going to be part of a striker partnership up top at Elland Road.
However, the forward more or less played out wide rather than being one of the two strikers, leading the line for Leeds against Brentford at home.
Leeds struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, and most pundits have conceded that the game was hard to watch because of the lack of quality.
The Yorkshire giants only had some efforts from range, and the wingers failed to find their target with crosses from the wide areas.
Lukas Nmecha – Leeds United 2025/26 Season Stats
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 25 | 6 | 1 | 874 |
| FA Cup | 3 | 1 | 2 | 248 |
| EFL Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 | 58 |
| Total | 29 | 7 | 3 | 1,180 |
Nmecha looked out of place and struggled to make any sort of impact as the Whites didn’t play their best football at home against Brentford.
Leeds have not scored a league goal since Anton Stach’s brilliant free-kick goal against Aston Villa more than a month ago.
It’s hard to see how Leeds plan to score goals if they play one of their strikers on the wings in big Premier League games at home.
Leeds need to score more goals
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has returned to the England squad, but his recent form has been a cause of concern at Elland Road.
He has scored 10 Premier League goals this season, but his last strike came in the win over Nottingham Forest in early February. He has missed some gilt-edged opportunities and also squandered a penalty against Crystal Palace.
Nemcha is still behind Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order, but even he has not scored a league goal since the 3-3 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Leeds need their two strikers to step up, but Farke also needs to play them both together up top to get the best out of them in the last seven league games of the season.
They have been defensively tight, and earning a point against Brentford despite not being at their best could become important later in the season.
If Leeds do not start scoring goals again, they could get sucked into the bottom three after the international break.
