This week, some Leeds United players have received a huge boost after recent announcements for the upcoming international break. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the latest to earn a call up for his country.
Earlier in the week, Julian Nagelsmann decided to call up Anton Stach; the Leeds midfielder has been very impressive this season. German outlets highlighted him as a possibility to make the World Cup, and Stach has a chance to do that in the upcoming friendlies.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin also got called up to the England squad for the first time since 2021. The striker has been in great form for the Whites this season, and is the club’s top scorer in all competitions. He needed a fresh start after leaving Everton at the end of his contract, and it looks like he has finally found a new home at Elland Road.

Thomas Tuchel gives Leeds United star a huge chance to impress
Calvert-Lewin will be a part of a 35-man England squad for the upcoming break. Thomas Tuchel explained that the reason for the numbers is that he wants to give the chance to some players ahead of the World Cup. Their upcoming games against Uruguay and Japan will serve as a chance to see some players in action.
In his press conference after the squad announcement, Tuchel made it clear that he wants to give a chance to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dominic Solanke in action. Harry Kane will arrive late to the camp, as England want to rest their regular stars: “Harry Kane is not in camp at the beginning, so I want to see them both and know more about Dom Solanke. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a good season with Leeds and is very decisive.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin can book his spot at the World Cup
The training sessions before the regular starters arrive will give a chance for other players to impress Thomas Tuchel. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will definitely be one of them. Harry Kane will be England’s leading man heading into the World Cup, but there is no clear back up for him in this moment. So it is up to Calvert-Lewin and Solanke to fight it out for that spot as England’s backup number nine. The former’s form at Leeds United this season has earned him a way back into the England fold, he now has a chance to grab a spot with both hands.
