Leeds United suffered back-to-back losses in the Premier League for the first time since November after being defeated by Sunderland 1-0 at Elland Road.
Despite the narrow defeat, Simon Jordan still believes that Leeds will stay up come the end of the campaign, with Daniel Farke’s men still having multiple winnable fixtures on the horizon.
Dan James was amongst the Leeds players who were frustrated with the time-wasting tactics that Sunderland deployed, with the Welsh winger also feeling that the penalty was harsh from a Leeds point of view after it was ruled that Ethan Ampadu handled the ball in the penalty area.
Nevertheless, Jason Cundy was quick to poke fun at Leeds following the defeat, as the Premier League relegation battle took another dramatic twist.
Jason Cundy ridicules Leeds live on talkSPORT following Sunderland defeat
Leeds fans left Elland Road on Tuesday night even more frustrated than usual after a defeat, given the stop-start nature of the contest between the two sides.
Former Chelsea player Cundy wasted little time poking fun at the Whites live on talkSPORT following the game, with Cundy involved in an exchange with a Leeds fan on air.
Quite rightly, the Leeds fan complained about the referee, as well as the frequent stoppages in play during the clash.
Cundy then replied, saying, “I’d love to hear from a Sunderland fan if they thought he was shocking. How many minutes did they add on at the end?”
When Cundy found out that 12 minutes were in fact added on, he attempted to wind up the Leeds fan, saying, “You can’t ask for much more than that. 12 minutes?! And I think it went beyond that.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was quiet against Sunderland
Despite all the talk about the referees, Leeds were far from at their best against Sunderland, with the Whites failing to create a single big chance during the game.
If United want any chance at breaking down the teams that sit back against them at home, they need to be providing more quality service to Calvert-Lewin, after the 28-year-old was forced to live off scraps against Sunderland.
- Calvert-Lewin was limited to just one shot against Sunderland
- The Englishman finished the game with an xG of just 0.08
- Calvert-Lewin still contributed to the team despite not getting many chances in front of goal, winning seven duels thanks to his fantastic work-rate (Sofascore)
Calvert-Lewin has not scored in his last three Premier League appearances. To ensure Leeds get the job done and avoid the drop, whilst simultaneously giving the supporters the last laugh over the likes of Cundy, Leeds need their number nine to get back to scoring goals.
