‘He could…’ – Ex-Aston Villa scout gives Leeds United green light to secure long-term transfer target

Leeds United were very busy back in the summer, trying to put together a team good enough to be competitive in the Premier League. The club chiefs promised to spend in the window and they delivered.

£100 million was spent on 10 new players, who strengthened the team and added key depth in some areas. Leeds United managed to get a new goalkeeper, bolstered the defence and added some quality in midfield. But fans were concerned about the business in attack – the Whites signed just three players in that area of the pitch; Lukas Nmecha, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor.

But there was one profile the club failed to add to when the window was open. Daniel Farke has been after a creative attacking midfielder for his side over the last year. And in the transfer window, Leeds failed to sign Bilal El Khannouss, Facundo Buonanotte and Emi Buendia. El Khannouss got a move to Germany, Buonanotte rejected the Whites to sign for Chelsea in the summer, and Unai Emery decided to keep Buendia at Aston Villa.

Leeds United could be back in for Aston Villa star this summer

Buendia remained with the Premier League side because Villa needed depth after failing to bolster their squad. The Argentine midfielder looked to be on his way out before Emery made his decision to keep the playmaker at the start of the season. But after a mixed campaign, and falling down the pecking order, the 29-year old could be available in the summer.

Former Villa scout Bryan thinks Buendia will ultimately leave the club in the coming months: “Does he need a new challenge now? If those things are joined together, it may be time for him to leave. I think he could be moved on, let’s put it that way.” he said to Villa News.

“There’s no chance they get the £33million they paid for him, no chance. There will be a club out there that wants to take him, that’s the way it goes.”

Daniel Farke can finally reunite with Emi Buendia

Emi Buendia landing at Elland Road in the summer could be a match made in heaven. The Argentine midfielder was in his best form for Norwich under Daniel Farke and has spoken highly of the German’s coaching. Leeds are also in desperate need of a playmaker having failed to sign one last summer. Facundo Buonanotte has not turned out to be the player the Whites wanted, so he could return to Brighton at the end of the season. Buendia can provide the spark in midfield and attack that the club needs, and would upgrade the quality in the team.
