The international break is in session and Leeds United have a number of players featuring. The club did not go into the break on a good note after failing to get a win at home in the league.
Leeds have a lot of work to do after the break if they are to remain in the top flight beyond this season. However, outside the club’s woes on the pitch, the players have been performing well. And this has been evident this past week as some key players were called up for international duty.
Anton Stach was called up by Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, marking his return for the first time since 2021. Dominic Calvert-Lewin also returned to the England national team after a long absence.
National team boss delivers stance on Leeds United star
Another Leeds United player who got called up this week was Joel Piroe. The striker switched allegiance from the Netherlands to Suriname, and will feature for his new country in this international break. Ahead of Suriname’s FIFA World Cup playoff tie, manager Henk ten Cate has said that the team need Piroe even though he has had limited minutes this season. But he did warn that it could become a problem in the future.
“He does not play regularly for Leeds but is at a club at the very highest level,” he said.
“The English league is by far the strongest in the world. It can happen that you end up on the bench. I have told Joël that he has to work really hard.
“When the chance comes, you have to seize it. He did that against Norwich. He played a very good game and scored an important goal.”

Joel Piroe needs to make a big decision this summer
Joel Piroe does not look like he has a future at Leeds United anymore; his place in the team has been taken by Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha. Piroe has been relegated to coming off the bench and in FA Cup games. And now, with his national team coach making a statement about the playing time, the striker will have to review his future.

The 26-year old has a year left on his contract at Elland Road, which means if Leeds do not want to make a loss, they will have to sell him. If they fail to let him go, he becomes a free agent in 2027. Joel Piroe and Leeds will both have difficult decisions to make in the coming months.
