“I had my doubts…” – Leeds United ace forces ex-Manchester United chief to eat his words

Before the season began at Leeds United, fans knew that the team would dip into the transfer market. This meant that not every player who helped the team reach the Premier League would actually feature in the campaign.

Leeds brought in 10 new players, adding a new goalkeeper, two key defenders and some midfielders. The club also added to the attack, but fans felt there was not much quality. Some of the signings slotted well into the first team, but for the most part, key players from the previous campaign held on to their spot in the starting lineup.

Ex-Manchester United chief full of praise for Leeds United star

One of these players was Joe Rodon; he formed a formidable partnership with Pascal Struijk in the Championship. Leeds United were one of the best defences that season. And even though they have not kept out a lot of goals, both Rodon and Struijk have impressed with how they have played. Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown has praised the Welsh international, saying that there will be interest with Rodon this summer.

“Joe Rodon has been outstanding for Leeds,” Brown told Football Insider.

“When he made the move from Tottenham, you were looking at him waiting for him to prove himself, and he did that in the Championship.

“The next question was whether he could do it in the Premier League, and I must admit I had my doubts, but he’s been a crucial part of their team this season.

“The problem then is, when you perform at a high level in the Premier League and for Wales, a lot of rival clubs start sniffing around and there are a few looking at Rodon.

“But I don’t think it’s a major concern for Leeds, by all accounts he’s happy there and he’s playing well so they’re not going to want to let him go.

“If they stay up come the end of the season, Leeds are confident they can keep hold of Rodon and all of their best players and they want to build around them.”

This summer will be a pivotal one at Elland Road

There are eight games left this season and the Whites are still not out of danger yet. Slipping in their last four games has seen them in the middle of the battle. They will now compete with Spurs, Nottingham Forest and West Ham to avoid relegation. In any event, the 49ers’ recruitment in the summer might have gone better than they expected. Their summer signings have performed to a high level alongside current first team players. Which means the coming months could see a lot of offers from the likes of Rodon, Struijk and Stach. The 49ers will have to weigh up which players they will sell or keep going into next season.
